Our appointment is over. We met with the residents first and then the surgeon. The resident was the one who performed the procedure. They had to drain the abscess and it was awful. They put him in a straight jacket on a table and we held him down while they poked him with a needle about 5 times. He screamed and yelled of course. He kept saying "I done! I done!" And when they undid him he said "tank tou!" through his tears. Such a sweet baby. They are sending off to culture to make sure we have right prescription for whatever strain of bacteria it is. We have to report back Monday via phone. If it doesn't improve we will have to go back and have another surgery where they cut him and put in a drain. I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. They did say that there wasn't as much pus as they anticipated so that was a good sign the meds had started working.
This poor boy was SO brave today and I was so proud of him.
We did have to postpone the surgery for cyst removal. We need the infection to be cleared out. Right now, we anticipate the end of August/beginning of September. Of course, this is what we had hoped would not happen, but we obviously want only what's best for him. We appreciate ALL of the prayers, the numerous offers of help, & the support & encouragement. It has made this time more bearable! Please continue to pray specifically that the infection will clear and that we won't have to have a drain put in him. Thank you again!
I think that he has started feeling better already. He’s very chatty and has been wanting to eat. He’s talking a lot and his disposition seems better. I’m praying this just keeps on getting better!
This morning before we left, we had to stop by his school to get a book for him from his teacher, and his classmates had made him this:
And he managed to make it a fun day before the bad stuff started.
He’s been such a trooper and I’m so glad he’s handling this so well. We laughed when they were finished b/c I’d asked if he could keep his paci, and they said yes, he’d probably lose it anyway when he started screaming. Not this kid. He held onto it the hole time, but managed to scream around it. :)
I’m thankful we are on the road to healing him. Again, thank you all for caring for our sweet boy and us!
Poor little guy! Reading that breaks my heart! Praying for all of you and that Reed's infection will clear up with the meds!

oh Sarah. That feeling of watching your child be pinned down during a medical procedure is the WORST. I wanted to just CRY for Connor when we held him down while his nail was sewn back on after his finger was injured last year. He kept saying "I go home momma!" He was about the same age as Reed. Bless his little heart. Praying for all of you!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! I'm so sorry. What a sweet baby, to get up and say thank you. Aww. Praying for you all!
ReplyDeletePraying it clears up quickly for you and that the timing of the surgery works itself out in the best way possible.
