Last Friday, I got a note sent home from school. I opened it and it was a letter telling us that Ava had been selected as a What Would Jesus Do award winner for the first semester! Per the letter, she was chosen because she had conducted herself in a way that fits the mission of their school to try to act like Jesus!
The award was a surprise to Ava. They gave out the awards Tuesday evening at their Christmas program. Ava thought we were just going to watch the Christmas play. After the play was over, the principal started calling the names of the recipients in each grade. When Ava heard her name, she walked very quickly to the front of the auditorium to get her award.
When she got back to her seat, Reed said “my turn!” haha! He thought he needed to go and get an award too. She got a pin with a Bible verse on it, and she slept with it that night! She also wore it to school the next day.
We are very proud of Ava and that she was given this award. We stopped on our way home for some ice cream to celebrate!
We may need to work on humility though. I cannot express in words how proud and happy Ava was to get this. When we got home, though, I walked into the kitchen and heard her singing, “I love myseee-eeelf, I love myseee-eeelf!” SERIOUSLY!?!?!?! I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing and told her that wasn’t the best way to celebrate her award. I couldn’t stop laughing about it the next day! I guess the award gave her a boost of self confidence!
I’m so proud of her and thankful she is able to be in a school that recognizes the acts of Jesus and encourages the children to behave that way. We are so lucky to be there!
This makes me so happy for her!!! And the "I love myself" is hysterical!!!
